Glass fell out of my plastimo barometer, one day a couple of years ago. Finally, got round to getting a replacement glass.

Suggestions for what to glue it in with please. I want it to look neat and not fall out this time!

Sorry can't help but I would also be interested in the answer to this. Also where did you get glass from? And I need the pointer also.

Force4, cost £6 and took about 4 months to arrive. Not their fault I hasten to add. Plastics glass came with the indicator fitted.

If it is glued in then this will not help you but if it is what I would term as properly manufactured the glass would be held in by a rolled in lip in the bezel. To fit the glass you heat the bezel, it expands and you drop in the glass. When it cools it grips the glass.

How often is stuff "correctly" manufactured these days?

The company I ordered a barometer from had 4 attempts to deliver a barometer where the glass would remain in placce. Large discount on purchase price and I used the remnants from on old tube of Sikaflex to keep the glass in. Still in 2 years later.

My glass kept falling out in rough weather. It's mounted on a bulkhead and ithick glass so quite heavy. There is a lot of inertia when slamming into waves. The design does not provide any mechanical support to retain the glass in fact the glass was quite a sloppy fit, thus relying entirely on the glue. I carefully peened the rim with a mallet all the way round so that the glass was a force fit into the aperture. I then ground the rim of the glass with fine wet and dry (a long winded job) in order to better key the adhesive. I then assembled horizontally using araldite and left to cure. Hopefully it will last this time. A rubbish design not really fit for use in a boat.
