I want to fix some curtain rails but the the area around the window frame looks too thin to take a screw without a danger of going right through. I have foam backed vinyl covering this area so gluing wooden mounting strips would be difficult. Any suggestions?

Hard to say without seeing it, but how about cutting out a long thin rectangle from the vinyl, scrape away the foam underneath, and glue a wooden batten (the same size as the hole) to the bare fibreglass? Then screw whatever fittings you like onto the batten.

I did the no-no but its my boat and it ain't going to fall off. Long teak battens around which the curtain tops and bottoms loop, so no sliders or hooks or sag... the battens are throughbolted throught the grp and the countersink heads gelcoated over, nuts, spacers then dome nuts on the inside after , looks pretty good and not plasticy or caravan aluminiumlike ( to moi)
Probably exactly what you are not thinking of doing.
Petes suggestion to slit open and glue is fine

Thanks for the replies, some more useful than other! and no I haven't been dogging it, although it would certainly spice things up for the ferry que overlooking Rothesay harbour!
Think I will go with Prv's suggestion. I suppose I could always glue a slightly larger baton to the first if the lining edge is less than perfect.
