As title is there a cheap plug on bit of kit to make my VHF transmit to a remote speaker. Distance isn't big, maybe 3 meters but to route the wire neatly is going to be one of those jobs.

Do you mean something like this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wireless-...73dbaf&pid=100677&rk=7&rkt=50&sd=331831248189

Have not tried one but certainly looks interesting. I did buy a cheep re-transmitter that worked on domestic radio vhf frequency that could be picked up by the vhf radio receiver in my phone so i could listen using the phone's ear-pieces where ever i was on deck but although it worked i never bothered again. Let us know if the bluetooth device works. About a week ago on one of these forums someone mentioned a waterproof bluetooth speaker designed for use in the shower..........

Thanks for the pointer, I bought one of those shower speakers after reading the same article, very impressive, that's what got me thinking for this idea.
Will let you know.

I would imagine you need something that will take a 12 volt power feed from the boat rather than relying on its own batteries. ebay seems to mention 8 hour working time. If you could get it running from the boat it would be permanent. Sounds like a great idea.

What puzzles me about the question is that surely if the OP can run a power cable to the speaker, he could also run an audio cable.

Well, I have 12v power in loads of places around my boat, but I'm not sure I could necessarily run a new cable from my VHF to (say) a cockpit speaker without pulling a load of headlining down. I already have a cockpit speaker/mike so it's moot, but I like the idea of that device, if I wanted a repeater to my Bluetooth audio speaker in my berth during a night passage.

I use a bluetooth speaker designed for use on a bicycle. It is strapped to the rail adjacent to the helmsman.
