Five Bells Hessett updating

Saguday, Pssst, want a blues-harpist?

Don't think that's their thing as they are a bit more rock than blues.
However, we (Blue Bark) are a blues/rock band but "someone" already has a go on harp on a couple of songs :o - you can hear some of it on the website if you follow the link below.
(Doesn't preclude someone else getting involved as well as long as we don't get it sprung on us as we're used to what we do as we gig regularly - of you see what I mean)

Well I wish I could be there.
I called in at the Five Bells just over a week ago and met Mr & Mrs Sixpence for the first time - what lovely people.
I can't comment on the food, but the pint I had was excellent. I hope that the planning issues are resolved swiftly, then on my next trip to that part of the world I know where to eat:D

I am pleased to say that I have convinced Fay, my long suffering wife, to come along so she can put some faces to the names she hears about.

See you Friday week

Just to give an idea of what we're doing, this is the plain text of our bar menu from Saturday evening. As i'm sure everyone will appreciate, this changes almost daily and sometimes changes during service as we had a fresh delivery of game arrive five minutes before opening the door so managed to add a few game salads to the menu, unfortunately these sold out at the first table and proved to be very popular. A few ducks, erm, didn't duck in time and await chef when he starts back on Wednesday. Plucking and gutting never was something I enjoy doing. Venison is also now on order, perfect timing as they need to arrange a cull so we will be having at least one deer for the kitchen. Lucky chef is a butcher and is capable of boning out.
Steak and seafood may or may not be given the go before the 5th but as that evening will be more traditional than our usual menu, that shouldn't be a problem.
Feedback on this menu would be appreciated, though I know it's not to everyones taste, and some of the meals may seem a little odd. Trust me, they taste luverly

Apologies to anyone that thinks this is advertising, but with so many not using facebook it's unfair to exclude those that have expressed an interest.

None of this tinned rubbish here

Thanks Paul, though I have to admit, the vegetarian options were accidental :o
No point doing a healthy options steak and seafood place, so the weight thing is something I may have to watch, if I get time to eat

Tried copying the menu but I'm not sure it's clear enough to read after shrinking

Wine menu is something else too

Not clear enough for me Dave (saved it to my desktop and enlarged it, and could just read it). Could always upload the full size version to somewhere like ImageShack and post the thumbnail, that's what i usually do.

BTW, thanks for posting it here, we don't use Facebook.

Re the menu - don't forget there are people out there who are on specific diets for a variety of reasons (not all are for weight loss). Apart from vegetarian there are a lot who are on 'no carbs' variants, which is tricky eating out when everything comes with stacks of bread, spuds, pasta or rice.
As long as there are fresh veg you can double up with, it's great.
Think I'll go for bangers and bangers on the 5th!

How can it be advertising - you are just keeping friends aware of what you are doing.

When things settle down and I am working again we'll be down to try out the menu.

thats NOT a DIET its Pigish :D

you wouldn't like a well-hung carcase of a red deer, would you ? He was about 9ft tall and pretty famous. ;)

Really, when I get up the E Coast, I can bring an offering ;);)

very best of luck, and have lots of fun.

there is a pub near the Thames near Henley which is always full at weekends. Walkers, serious cyclists, do food on a Sun all day up till 6pm and always packed. Their food is mainly basic but pretty good, but get a serious clientele from having a reputation for doing game when available. Not many places do it now, so it's always popular in rural areas that have access to local game.

Tim, deer order has been placed with a local hunt member, delivery to be a full carcass and we get the satisfaction of knowing when and where it was culled, the name of the hunter, and how long we hang it for before sticking it on the menu. None of this sneaky big red stuff round here :D

Brendan, that's just what we're aiming to do, bring good fresh stuff to the plate instead of the muck people so often accept. Been hard work so far because of the reputation this place had gained but by not accepting anything but the best so far, we're part way to turning things round. Fingers crossed. High level meeting on Friday could prove to be the make or break point for us, so keep fingers crossed everywhere please
