Fitting USB/lighter socket

Replacing a single USB socket with combined double USB and lighter socket. Bought in line fuse holder and connected all up. USB was easy as I could use existing wiring. That works fine. I ran new similar cable for the second socket using same terminals. I'm not familiar with this type of inline fuse as opposed to the inline with filament fuse on the other. When tested the fuse shorted and slight burn smell. I tested with multimeter and there is DC power to it so what is wrong?

Did the unit come with a wiring diagram? I've fitted several of these and there's only ever been one connection to it that needs to be made, you don't make a separate connection for each individual point/socket so I'm pretty sure that's where your problem lies...

Will need two supplies, with separate fuses, or a single cable, rated for both outlets, fused at source for both sockets, then a take-off for the USB socket, with a smaller fuse.

Would help if the OP specified the type of sockets and the actual fuses types.

Hi Paul, that's it exactly. No diagram with it. There are two supplies with separate fuses but I think the fuses are the same for both the USB and the lighter socket. I tested it with a USB lighter stick which blew. . Does that draw more and could lead to blowing the fuse ? Thanks

USB 12 v car charge.

I can't recall size fuse, chandlery supplied it as per request. Brown colour but no number on it.

A brown blade fuse is 7.5A so it depends what you plugged into it.

Do you mean an Ionic lighter for the stove that you charge via USB? and that you used it to test if it was charging? If it's that it should draw a max of 5V through the USB cable.

You can't "draw" volts, you draw amps.

Thanks, got distrated thinking how many amps does a USB cable support. I believe it's 1.5 A, my lighter only has a very small battery to charge and I'm assuming it's the same for all models.
