Anyone thought about this yet?

As a relative newbie, I don't really know where to start, but seeing as I have taken advantage of several events so far and have not yet made any effort in putting anything together - I am volunteering to help or to organise/coordinate if someone wants to suggests where and when.

As the last few events have been in the Harwich are I suppose it should be in the Crouch/Blackwater area.

The normal system is for someone to volunteer and they get to decide where and when.
The venue would need to accommodate 40 to 50 people and be accessible on foot from a mooring area with moorings for 10 to 15 boats.

Easter is very late this year (Last weekend of April)
Would be interesting to know when folk are intending to be in commission.
I will be moving Sirenia back to her summer mooring at the end of March.

I am aiming at being back on the water by end of March latest, maybe even start of March! At least one benefit of no work is being able to get to the boat more!

If looking at the Crouch / Blackwater last season I had good 'meet meals' at Swallowtail BYH, Green Man & West Mersea YC - all can cope with large numbers although I think the Green Man is the most flexible on confirming menu choices. Most seem to want confirmation a week in advance.

I don't have contact number for CPD. Perhaps someone else can let him know I have offered to help :)

I really cannot do much by myself as have no idea re venues or even when. We are in all year (excluding disasters).

Hi Lisa, doesn't the jungle telephone system (Clive in this case) work a treat !. About a week or so ago I had a few chats and as Clive points out, the last few do's have been up Shotley way so in the interest of going somewhere else, Brightlingsea and Tollesbury were raised as possibilities with Saturday 7th May being suggested which gives a not ideal but very doable afternoon tide on the Saturday (HW 1500ish from memory ?). Given the wider access window, Brighlingsea came out on top. And that is as far as it got.

If you are happy to take it from there then that would be fabulous.

The Kovalam springs to mind and I'm sure others will be along to add their d's worth .........

Have pm'd my mobile number.

I did wonder about Heybridge Basin, as it would be a cracking location for the event.... but I suspect the problem will be tide times on the proposed weekend. It makes the weekend difficult for people if they can't get out and off home until mid afternoon on the Sunday.

Whilst I love curry I appreciate it wouldn't be everyones choice and I doubt the Kovalam would be very flexible on confirming numbers. Elsewhere at Brightlingsea there is the Colne YC - I've not eaten there in years so cannot comment or fish & chips so perhaps not much of an alternative if want room to drink and chat.

As suggested Heybridge Basin is a bit restrictive on tidal access.

Is Bradwell a better alternative? Marina isn't too restrictive in depth - maybe! The Green Man is excellent and has the 'back / side room' they use for larger groups.

HW Walton on Naze
Sat 7 May 1500 BST 4.0m - not too early a start for those leaving at LW & coming down Wallet. Those wanting to cross Ray Sand have a good rise of tide.
Sun 8 May 0322 BST 4.0m
1537 BST 3.9m
Probably cannot get out of Marina much before lunch - so nice lie in! ;)

I would go for Bradwell and the Green Man.
But is May a bit late for a fit-up supper?
The season will be well underway by then.
Quite a few will be off for an early season cruise the week before with Easter and the wedding/may day bank holidays giving to opportunity of 11 days leave for 3 days holiday allowance.

11th/12 gives a similar tide window.

Weekend of the 2nd/3rd or 16th/17th look the best to me.

Easter weekend would also be possible I beleve as folks have 4 days to get there and back.

Happy to sort a vote if the forum so wishes.

Rules are made to be broken:)
If we make one I would be happy to break it:D

It should really be up to who ever is getting the get-together up together to choose a date.
Over to you Lisa & Alan:p

It depends what you are looking for...
Coming from the Crouch or the Medway, you want LW-ish at the Spitway and enough depth to get into Bradwell. Coming from the Orwell etc, you want a flooding tide to help you down the Wallet.
Coming from the Deben, you need enough water over the bar, and then a flooding tide.
Using your tides, then, 9th or 22nd look good, but 22nd is Easter w/e.

We'll have to come by car anyway - our (new) boat will be in Germany!

oh Lord, what's this? The Lounge?! :D :D

Agree to avoid Easter. Prefer early April. Have called Alan, will speak to him later and confirm which date by tomorrow.

(BTW - just called Bradwell to enquire. They don't take advance bookings. Just turn up).

For the 9th I would get out of the Deben on the Friday evening and stop in the Orwell / Stour.
Sunday would a silly o'clock start to get the ebb along the wallet and wait somewhere for enough water to get over the Bar or a later start and punch the flood all the way.
Depends on what the wind is doing.
Can we have a WNW F3/4 for the weekend please.
