Good Morning,

I have replaced my md5a single cylinder Volvo with a reconditioned motor and noticed the original control lever sticking. Purchased a multiflex side mounting control lever 12 months ago and when I’ve came round to installation I’m struggling to get my head round the cable attachment to the control lever.

It comes with a red and black plastic fitting to capture my cables and attaches through circlips onto the rear of the control lever. The control lever has three parts for attachment, left, centre and right. Silly question but where does my gear shift cable attach and where does my throttle cable attach. Three attachment points and only two cables.

My throttle cable doesn’t have the travel to attach to the centre which would seem like the correct point in my logic and the shift cable attaches to the left hand side.

I will attach pictures to my thread later this afternoon. Hope this thread isn’t to confusing. Lying in a locker scratching my head yesterday wishing I’d got somebody out to do this apparently easy job.

Cheers,

Willy

I don't know that particular control lever but there will be two options for the gear cable. Depends if you need to push or pull the cable to go into forward gear. So, pushing the control lever forward (to go into forward gear) one of the attachment points would 'push' the cable, the other would 'pull' the cable. You need to decide whether the gearbox expects a 'push' to go ahead or vice versa.

Gosh, that was hard work...

Ahh I follow, makes sense now. The central connection will be for the throttle then, if my throttle cable doesn't have the necessary travel from the attachment point what is a solution a part from a replacement. They are standard cables. Unable to attach images on this forum from my Mac apparently as I have taken many pictures of what I'm facing in order to try and solve this issue before going back offshore and starting from scratch in 2 months time..

Would appear to be standard teleflex cable, 33c. the fixing point is with cur-clips to the rear of the control lever. I haven't fitted the fuel tank into the lower yet as I'm lying inside trying to get this control sorted out.
