Fitting Raymarine Through-Hull Transducers to Fairline Targa 40

From watching that video and a little bit of research, my perception is that the hatches I open are part of the liner, and therefore what I'm seeing underneath the hatch IS the bottom of the hull. I'd say the wording in the video is open to interpretation, but this is mine... I will most certainly bring the matter up with both Hudson marine and the fitter himself, and that should give a good indication as to their knowledge on this.

Osmotech have also carried out work on this boat recently (which involved a lot of drilling through the hull) - A/C installation and underwater lights, so I'll drop them a message too for clarification on the matter.

And if they want a good laugh refer them to Porto's posts.

You got it. It's not hard (for anyone but Porto) to understand.

Now what are you sweeping under the carpet :D?
Nope it’s a liner , its not the inside of the outer skin painted over.

Fairline video

Another one ( stelican ) I am off there xmas list . :)
If you open the hatches in the cabin sole you see the single layer hull. Read that thread that you've linked to above if you want a further explanation.

Better still, as you seem to have a lot of time on your hands, find someone with a Targa 40 and ask them to show you the hull when you open a hatch in the saloon sole.

Got a couple of Phantoms on our pontoon .Will do Covid permitting ? Next season .

So there still is a liner blanking out spaces in some places , not necessarily below dedicated inspection hatches you are requesting me to look into .

I mean the ER ( as JFM said , corrected you in my link ^^^ ) and I suspect the hull sides .You know places where say …..let me think a diesel spillage might linger .For doubt ask Bouba .

Aside Vripak got them off liners as in the vid I understand….think . Delamination is still a possibility a potential issue of where ever the liner is only glued down .

But FL s liners does explain the lack of engine choice in old FL s line up .

As a more bespoke trad build process as the late JB( of Sunseeker fame ) said means you can modify easily.I mean adjust the engine bearer bed width + size to suit .Take the Porto 53 came with a wide choice of engines inline and V s CAT , VP and even Arnesons with the larger MAN s 1100 s over the 800 s , Around 5 motors all different dims .

Where as for example the squadie 58 had zero choice , D12 only ,because it would be too much hassle to alter the inner lining?
You know shifting ,or changing to engine beds to accept a pair of V 8 s MTU / MAN s etc like MapishM s equivalent size boat .

I wonder if the inflexibility of the liner build process and it’s stymied knock on effect to motor choice had any influence on the demise of the company? Played some part or other in the declining sales .Lingering doubts maybe ?

The liner forms the floor. Apart from the hatches that are removable to access the sea cocks, shower sump, etc, there are other cutouts (with ply infills) underneath the carpet which pretty much allow access to the hull for the full length of the boat.

@petem
I don't post on the FB Farline Owners because its public status but you might. Sure I've seen some of the old fairlibe employees on it so maybe we could try and get some inside knowledge on this issue

To be honest, it's not an issue at all. Anything below the sole (floor) is single skin hull with stringers. The main job of the liner is to replace the plywood floor that Porto has.

Not only does it form the floor but also forms the seat, berth and cupboard bases and also giving very good access to the hull.
