I am thinking of fitting furling gear to my 22ft Achilles and am considering the Plastimo 308 gear. I have some of questions for the forum:

Does anyone know of an online version or downloadable pdf of the fitting instructions?

What is the difference between the 'turnbuckle' and 'chainplate' versions as I'm not sure what I need?

Any other tip?

Thanks very much,

Andy

Great thanks.

I now understand what I need. Sorry for seeming dense but if you don't know I guess you should ask. I really should have tried their website though.

Looks fairly straight forward to fit it. Has anyone got any tips from experience?

it explains that if you have a turn buckle (rigging screw) on the forestay you need the type with the chainplates.

[/ QUOTE ] Sorry got that a bit wrong. If you have a turnbuckle you need the version with the long chain plates but you can read it correctly for yourself. Probably best to look at the FAQs on the Plastimo site.

I cannot find any mention of a 308 !

I briefly gave an elderly guy in the boat yard a hand with the last stages of the installation of one last year but only really because I stopped for a bit of a natter. He had not had any trouble installing it (mast up) on his Rowan.

I saw it suggested, on the Seateach website I think, that getting the sail modified to to fit the gear and adding the UV protective strip would cost about half the price of a new genoa so unless your sail is in good condition it is worth getting a sail specially made rather than modifying it. Seateach even offer part exchange deals on good sails.

My sails are a bit past their sell by date and so I'm going for a new set as well. I was thinking of selling my boat and buying a bigger one but then having looked at a few dogs realized that I'd be better off updating my sails, saving myself a few quid and keeping what is a very nice little boat.
