Down the boat today and the Eber ECU Control unit decided to go up in smoke. certainly made me think twice about running it unattended in future as it could have taken the boat with it !!!. It's completely fried so I need a new unit. Is it a simple case of buying one with the same product code and fitting it or do they need reprogramming by 'someone'

Code on mine is: 22 51 01 00 10 05 which Google and several outlets selling these things tells me is compatible with the newer 22 51 01 00 30 05.

Thanks in advance from anyone who has been there and replaced an ECU in the past.

cheers Gary

I have a video of mine emitting smoke if interested, you'll watch it though and never trust your Eber again

I fitted one 6 months ago, just plug & play, if I can do it anyone can. I got it from Butler Technik 01427 787121- £246, overnighted and a 10 minute fit.
Enjoying it as I type...

Thanks Tom, good to know and exactly what I was hoping to hear. did yours fry too? mine blew the 32 amp fuse when it went pop

Didn't fry, thankfully, Eber just died, a good electrician tested it and recommended an ECU from Butlers for price and service. (call them for best price, web price was substantially more)

They are very easy to replace, but I would check the glowplug and fan motor as these are the two consumers which draw current. If there is a fault with one of these you don't want to toast your new ECU. The motor is easy to check if it spins freely and you can connect a 12v supply it to check it runs OK. The glowplug needs checking with a multimeter for a short circuit.

I did exactly the same to mine. Got a puff of white smoke one day and the D4 stopped functioning completely.

A guy on the Scuttlebut send me a test unit and an ecu he had as a spare which allowed me to fault find. A dead ecu was the issue and I got a new one from a guy in the Channel Islands.

Simple to fix and once back in has never given me an issue since. The is a newer version which is suppose to cure the issue of them blowing. The part number you quote is the newer version.

I am glad mine works as we are spending a week on board as I type and the SofF is only getting to 16 during the day and dropping to 7 at night. Tres froid!

Agree with all the comments about easy to fit. The cables have all got unique plugs that are impossible to put in the wrong sockets.

I was extremely hacked off when the Eber' dealer who sold me the new ECU admitted there was a fault in the design/manufacture of the old one and the 'new one' was much better but still charged me eyes watering amounts for it...

The new one has outlasted the old one though.
