I heard that retro-fit kits are available for some outboards. I've got a Yamaha Malta (C 10 years old) and a Mariner/Yamaha/ 2hp (age not known), anyone any suggestions on where I could look?
I fitted a kill switch to an out board a few years back. The dealer flogged me some spare parts for a different make and did a diagram on which wires to break into. I seem to remember that you earth the unit to 'kill' the engine.
I fitted one to my old yamaha. Basically they are just an open switch that gets closed when the cord is pulled out. Closing the switch earths the ignition and stops the engine. Very easy to install. just buy anyone which will fit in the space available. You can put in parallel with your current kill button.
When I converted mine, years ago, the kill cord switch was pretty standard. All I did was to replace the original kill button. Taking the two wires off the back of the button, remove button and replace with a kill switch through the same hole and replace the two little wire, as simple as that!
