Fitting heating to a Beneteau 331

I have just become the happy owner of a Beneteau 331 and will be installing an Eberspacher heating system at the end of the season when she comes out of the water. I have no problems with installation as this will be the third time I have done this on various boats, in fact I am quite looking forward to it. What would be helpful to know is how the 'factory' installation is laid out as knowing this should save some time and brain power. The kind of information that would come in handy is stuff like the actual heater location, exhaust location, duct paths and outet positions etc. if anyone out there can help with this it would be much appreciated!

If it is anything like the installation on my Jeanneau it looks suspiciously as though the heater was fitted before the deck and cockpit moulding was put on. Certainly a lot of the other "systems" were definitely pre-deck-. Probably however the heating was not actually a factory fit, but fitted by the commissioning dealer, who happened to have a double-jointed midget working for them.

On my 311 the Eberspacher was fitted as an extra when the boat was new. The heater unit was fitted to the rear of the cockpit locker on to a panel bonded (I guess) against the hull and is quite high up. The exhaust exits through the transom, the timer is fitted in the instrument panel above the chart table and the thermostat sensor is fitted above the instrument panel. The two outlets are fitted in the support for the chart table and in the bulkhead between the aft cabin and the cockpit locker this outlet is closeable.

Not sure about the layout but we have friends with a 331 with a heater outlet in the heads, makes a brilliant drying area, well worth considering

I try to do that on every install, they are a real boon, great for drying stuff and don't forget the warm seat factor too.
For the OP, on that boat you would be much better off with an EVO 3900 which is actually a 3.5kw with a quick warm up temporary boost, the D4 is overkill and the D2 is too small. Also the 75mm duct on the D4 makes it a bit noisier than the 90mm on the EVO 3900.
