is it possible to fit an external tank and replumb the fuel line to fit a fuel connector to a 1974 evinrude 4hp.
i have seen some of these 4hp with external tanks but i suppose that was factory fitted.

the parts catalouge says it has a fuel pump so i presume its not gravity fed , so the fuel doesnt need to be gravity fed from the top

The parts diagrams I have looked at only show this engine as having a remote tank!

The first thing to check is whether it does actually have a fuel pump. If it does OK if it does not it may be possble to fit one but it will need a connection to the crankcase to operate it. If there is a plugged hole then OK but if there is not then drilling and tapping a hole, although possible, may be a step to far.

You will then need to fit a connector for the remote tank. If there is a place in the casing to fit it OK. Otherwise you will have to make a place to fit it!

i will take the cover off and have a look when it cools down tonight.
this engines runs really well now but uses its 1.5ltr in about 45mins and i dont like refueling on the water as i dont fancy i dinghy full petrol

My Yamaha 4hp has a 3 way petrol tap to allow either the built-in tank or an external tank to be connected. It just sits inside the casing and is plumbed in with ordinary hose connectors and black flexible fuel hose. It would be easy to fit one on any engine.
