Boat has only got one electric bilge pump and I'm finally getting around to fitting a second emergency one. Have all the wiring and relays in place, the question is:

To get through the BSC I had to fit an oil separating filter into the bilge pump outlet hose.

I don't want to have to add another filter due to restricted space and I certainly don't want to have a second thru hull fitting.

Is it permissable to join two pumps into one outlet pipe using a Y piece and two 19mm, one way valves such as these?

Ta.

Edit:

I have a dry bilge, so I will add that the secondary one is not expected to be used in tandem with the original, it is just a redundancy pump in case the first fails, and is switched on manually from the helm with a relay in the engine compartment to reduce the voltage losses in long cables.
I made up a nice new switch panel with LED status lights and I had to have something to switch on with it didn't I? :D

I have a pump I use for diesel, though it will do water as well. You can either drop the pump in a five gallon can, or put it in line, then plug it into the fag lighter socket.

It's nowt to do with BSC if it's not fixed. Just keep it in a cupboard and bring it out when needed.
