Fitting a wiper spray sensor

Has anyone sourced and fitted an aftermarket rain or spray sensor? Vetus do one for a price, but I think that is intended for their wiper control box. I have looked for one designed for vehicles as that would be fine, it will be fitted inside an enclosed wheelhouse. There doesn't seem to be much choice. I don't want to wast money on some dodgy import that doesn't work. What would folk recommend? Is there a particular vehicle one I could adapt?

I have thought about the same thing for both the boat and the car. The one i had in a 5 series BMW worked very well but of course its all integrated, I have seen a few after market ones for not a lot of money on ebay (or alibabab or similar I forget), but likewise no idea how well they work.

Be interested to know if anybody has tried them.

My Ford Focus has them, I would hazard a guess a bit cheaper than BM !

OK, might take this over to the PBO forum for an electronics expert. I can buy an aftermarket sensor for a Jeep for £12.50 but I need to know what relay is needed and how to wire up a relay for it. Any ideas before I do that please?

Yes, I have thanks anyway though. On ebay.co.uk they are about £49 but a lot more sophisticated than I need because they have a light sensor as well, and a battery protector. I was hoping to get away with a £12.50 one plus a Maplins relay!

Post links to all the info you can... details of the sensor and preferably wiring diagrams of the Jeep that it fits.

I thought of doing this but decided against it as

A. The manufacturers dont fit them so I had a hunch there was a reason

B. Spray is salty and unless there is a huge amount of it I tend to leave it as without using the washers all you get is a smeared screen ! I sort of assumed this was behind the manufacturers decision not to do it.

I could be wrong on both counts !

I'm surprised that none of the the med boys have come up with Wiper Cam, some kind of set up where they can look at the marine display through a remote camera to ascertain if it is raining or the screen has taken some spray. could really offer some peace of mind.
