Fitting a radar with the mast up

[ QUOTE ]
Any cable inside the mast or rear mounted pole can be fitted with cable ties with long end untrimmed in groups of 3, this will prevent cable slap.

Good luck getting them through the hole in the mast then...

I am not a numpty, my suggestion was regarding trying to feed the cable with the mast stepped, I am fascinated in your method of getting cable ties into place and into the mast itself while he hangs on a line halfway up the mast . /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

p.s. they don't work that well after time, I have recently removed the ones on mine and added foam pipe insulation in conjunction with longer-stronger tie wraps in the hope this will solve the problem.

but, what would I know, apparently.

We mounted the scanner on a strut at height of a small ladder and therefore below the first speaders and deck/steaming light. This enabled safe access from roped on ladder to connect cable to scanner etc .
No problems with light being obstructed in practice although I was worried about this.

Just like mine and same method.

I saw a catamaran opposite me using a A frame step ladded ladder to mount their radar. They had a nice stable boat and lots of width...Jealous? moi? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Interesting thought fitting it lower down though, I suppose the spread of the light won't be affected if it lower than the spreaders. Prolly about the height about of the one in the background of the photo above, or about the height of a ladder...Good thought guys

Keep them coming /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Personally I would want the scanner high enough that nobody on board is in the beam. This rules out a stern post imho.

good thread.I'm hoping to fit a furuno 1623 to my dufour 36 next week.As radar is changing so fast to broadband etc,I feel obsolesence is imminent anyway so I plan to fix conduit outside the mast to save a massacre of the mast!whether or not the cable then dives below deck or not seems to depend upon whether or not the display can survive under the sprayhood?A ladder purchase is indicated to rivet the platform to the mast perhaps using it afterwards for a paserelle!good sailing to all! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

OK, silly me, I forgot I have a baby stay at the front of the mast..that now means the radar will have to go above the spreaders, right under the deck light, or about 1.5 metres from the deck...so it now looks like the mast idea is no go /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

So full steam ahead with the Radar Post!

Thanks all
