Has anyone ever fitted a periscope on their boat?

No, I am not considering the possible worst case scenario but I can be a lazy ******* who likes the warmth of his bunk. I am just thinking of how to make keeping some kind of watch more appealing.

Obviously I am not thinking of a full-sized 'Das Boot' edition, more something like one used to have as a kid or, specifically, off an army tank, to the same principle as: http://bit.ly/YC5EFZ

Hi,

That would be here ... (see below).

As this is the Jesters' forum, I was of course have a joke on the idea of sinking but it made me think ... has anyone considered going a bit more high tech but with fairly low tech digital cameras?

Little wired or wireless security cameras are very cheap and waterproof these days. I should image there might even be night vision ones.

Don't you love his axes? I wouldn't know what to do with an ax on a boat except maybe repel boarders.

They're for chopping up the kindling, one presumes, for his humungous wood-burning stove. Which serves multiple porpoises, of course, including cooking, drying socks and kecks, warming the toesies, and augmenting the ballast ratio and the calculated STIX Number.

Edit: P'rhaps Bill has been influenced by that scene in the movie 'Hornblower - Master and Commander : The Far Side of the World' where the sailing master and the captain cut away the shattered mast and rigging over the stern....

Or, maybe, ISAF Offshore Special Regulations Category 0.....

"4.16 Tools and Spare Parts
Tools and spare parts, including effective means to quickly disconnect or sever the standing rigging from the hull shall be provided."
