Fitting a normal size toilet bowl in a cruising yacht?

Hello I seem to have found my next yacht, and she has a relatively spacious foc'sle for sail storage, chains and the head. There is room for a normal size toilet.
It is presently a Lavac, (or perhaps an old SL), well plumbed in to a holding tank and o/b discharge with a diverter valve. I prefer Jabscos in general.
Could I fit a normal toilet bowl, there is a huge choice of new ones, and plumb a normal Twist-n-lock in to it?
Has anybody tried it?

I am fed up with perching precariously when I should be meditating, or perusing an old Cunliffe article. And the issues with yacht heads and the 'low hanging fruit' need no comment you know what I mean.
Someone must have done the same, how did it go? cheers Jerry

There are 2 sizes of Jabsco toilet bowl - the common "compact" and the "regular". The latter is similar size to a domestic toilet.

I was lucky in that I already had a small Jabsco toilet that could easily be replaced with a regular model as the base and pump were the same for both. Just had to change the bowl having made sure there was room for it.
Awarded brownie points from SWMBO for my efforts.

I have a Jabsco with a normal domestic size bowl, and a 'Twist & Lock' pump. It was called a 'Large Bowl when I bought it, but looks to be the same as the current 'Regular'. No problems when meditating!

Can you simply swap the Jabsco small bowl for the regular sized one?

I believe so. I was going to do it myself, but there's a locker door that only just clears the top of the toilet bowl at present, and I believe the Regular bowl is slightly taller than the Compact :(.

Thanks for your answers, I will consider a Jabsco normal, time to go in a chandlers and 'adopt the position'..
I thought I had one in the Hurley but now I think it's a compact bowl. But I still want a household one really, and I was still wondering if anyone had put one in a yacht?

A normal one has a u bend and a 4 inch outlet pipe. I can't find a 4 inch seacock on ASAP supplies. :p Also the fitting of a cistern may prove problematic.

I have a full size Dometic electric loo. It's high (2-3 inches higher than a Jabsco Regular) , and wide, and whizzes away in a second. Very comfortable.

Not saying it's sensible, but I think it could be done. Sure the 4" outlet could be adapted down to say 2". You'd want a decent pump to shift the larger amount of water, say one of the big Whale ones. Plus another medium-sized diaphragm pump for the flush water (simpler to keep them separate). And you certainly wouldn't want to use it with a holding tank, or at least not unless it was very large.

The only real problem I can see is foreign objects (or perhaps just excessive toilet paper) getting round the 4" U-bend and then jamming against the 2" reducer.

I had something similar on a previous boat, A Simpson Lawrence 396 IIRC. Like the one in the link but with a couple of gate valves you had to twiddle for discharge and flush.

I now have a pair of SL400s which use a normal domestic seat so no having to perform one function at a time because you can't get both into the bowl at once. The disadvantage is that in order to fit in very shallow mounts the bowl is also shallow and your hand can encounter nasty things when wiping. The deeper SL401 Gets round that but needs a lot more space to install.

The little round Bryden/Par bowl is only suitable for use as a child's potty.

I have seen it said that "The human race divides equally into those who wipe while sitting and those who wipe while standing. Until told about them, neither group has any idea about the existence of the other."

Thanks - I had wondered about that occasionally :)

I'd guess the sitters outnumber the standers at sea. Standing when a girt great mobo goes past at 40 knots could be a messy business :)
