fitting a new folding prop on a volvo saildrive

Richard - thanks for the link - exactly as I have found. Strange that there is no fanfare on the website about a modification to the design.
Also no web site info on best antifouling practice. i have sent them an email seeking info on this point.

Only on my own experience.
We fitting an three blade Brunton prob some weeks back , and so I delighted with it , it's put an extra knot on my speed at 1800 RPM , and there don't seen to be any drag we only done about 9 hours of motoring so only time will tell .
I understand it does needs to be Greese each year ,
Only one problem so far , is finding out if to lock the box when sailing or not , I shall post a thread on this

Hi folks

Can anyone share their experience of fitting a new folding prop on a VP saildrive in my case a 110S?
I am currently researching three different model types - Gori , Kiwiprop and Flexofold.

Ideally i want a prop which when fitted requires zero maintenance from April through to October when we lift out for the winter. And the easier is is to fit and maintain the better.:) The kiwi prop website boasts of very easy fitting while the other web sites are silent on this - email sent to both.

Thanks

I also have Gladiateur 33 and have fitted a Kiwi Prop when I installed the VP D-30 in 2006 . I am very happy with it and performance in reverse is exceptional.......it also goes forward just fine! The only one misgiving I have and is whether you can get through that period without a mid term re-grease. I haven't but having said that it would be rare if one hadn't had a lift/dry out to scrub off. I have also perfected a system for doing it underwater but that does mean diving down (not with breathing apparatus). Good sailing

Hail Fellow gladiateur owner ! we are a rare breed around here!
I queried the maintenance requirements for the flexofold when ordering and was informed by email
The only maintenance required is to keep the propeller clean.
The pivot pins and gears are water lubricated, however, adding waterproof grease to the moving parts will help the folding and unfolding.
I hope that means a mid season scrub is unneccessary -i will know better this time 12 months.

the instructions that came with the flexofold recommended placing the gear lever into reverse when sailing - would the same apply to the Brunton?

It depends on the gearbox, and the mood of the Autoprop. With my old fixed prop, I used to have to engage astern (if you engage either ahead or astern on a Technodrive, you will find that the prop will still rotate one way, but not the other) but with the Autoprop ahead usually does it, but sometimes it doesn't and I have to go for astern. It's all to do with the way the blades feather in any particular circumstance, so be open minded, and engage the gear that stops rotation....
