Fitting a CAV filter assembly?

Not convinced. Surely the advantage of the CAV is that it has a glass bowl?

For £20 you can have a dedicated large volume plastic/glass bowl prior to the spin on filter. Easy to spot water and dirt. Needs little maintenance either.

But is a pain in the a.... When you have a blocked filter in a bumpy sea and you need to put a new filter on!

The Racor spin-ons also have transparent bowls, and theirs are better in that they catch and show up the dirt. Properly-installed CAVs have the filter before the bowl, so by the time you see any crud in the bowl it's because the filter is saturated and the crud is leaking through.

CAV is not complete ****, but its only benefits are that it is cheap and the filters are widely available. I prefer Racor spin-on.

I put longer hoses each side of my CAV
Then i fitted 2 studs to the bulkhead
The filter is fitted to the studs with butterfly nuts
Now to change filters i undo it & can move it to a more accessible position over a bucket
This makes re assembly much easier & the fiel & bits drop into the bucket
