Fitting a calorifier

Hi - I'm fitting a calorifier to my First 285.
I'm actually installing the Isotherm square slim square model due to space restrictions.

As far as feeding the cooling water from my fresh water cooled Volvo 2002 - I just wanted to check...

I'm extending the pipe that takes the hot cooling water output from the engine which normally goes to the Vetus waterlock and re-routing it to the calorifier and then the output of the calorifier "engine water" back to the waterlock.

Is that right?

Also - I can find lots of websites selling the fresh water hoses that I need for the taps but can anyone suggest where I could get the black engine hose that is used on the Volvo engines for the cooling water please?

Also any web suggestions for a mixing shower tap for the heads?

[/ QUOTE ]No! you need to take a feed from the engine cooling (fresh water) upstream of the thermostat and feed the return upstream of the cooling circulation pump (and downstream of the exchanger) for the system to be efficient. To do as you suggest the calorifier will not heat the water to any great extent[ QUOTE ]

Agree with Cliff's comments above, but as for the shower fittings, I used a standard 1/2" BSP shower fitting and hose from B&Q, and a set of two isolating taps as sold for washing machine installation. This allows you to have an almost infinitely variable mix of hot and cold through the shower, which, if you only have a small calorifier will be necessary, as the water will cool quite quickly..
 
Volvo do a simple kit for flow and return for a clorifier. I think it breaks into the length of tube that goes from the top of the thermostrat housing to the exhaust gas mixer.

Probably replaces the straight tube with 2 x 90 degree elbows.

JUST FITTED THE SAME CALORIFIER TOO. WORKS GREAT.

To tap into that source of heat is very inefficient and basically a waste of time and money. - You need to tap off the head close to the thermostat but up stream of it (top of engine) with the return to the block (as low as possible) and fit a circulation pump. This circulates the hot raw water in the block around the calorifier so your calorifier will eventually, as near a damn, reach engine running temp.
