Fitted CAV fuel filter /bleeding

My CAV is easy to take off the bulkhead and I just hold it as low as possible so it fills from the tank then reattach it. However, having just replaced to fuel line from the tank, I've fitted an inline bulb primer pump to make it a bit easier.

I have made my fuel lines long enough so that when I change the filter I can get the unit into an accessible position over a bucket first. It is fixed with butterfly nuts on studs. The bulb primer is the way to go every time.

I never seem to have trouble with CAV 296 filters leaking (that's jinxed the next service), but i do always fit new seals. But, another advantage with the spin on filters is that you can pre-fill them.

My experience as well but I started working on them when I was in my teens 50 years ago! To the OP I went to the scrappy and got a squeezy fuel bulb off a Peugeot, similar to an out board squeezy and fitted that between the tank and the 296, open the bleed on the top, a couple of squeezes and job done.

Within 15 miles and for the first one of the year I was quite pleased with that.

I have a Casio Waveceptor watch that updates itself from a radio time signal at 0200 hours each day, so is as accurate as I need.

Very good, tricky thing noon sights on a bobbing yacht and the sun’s appearance of hanging at its apogee.

On a Cornish note who makes the best pasty? I was visiting a client in St Austell last summer and when I asked where to get a good pasty was told, "I'd go to Charlestown". We did and they were great.

I used to get great pasties from a place in Trewoon, just outside of St. Austell, roughly NE. Mind, that was about 45 years ago, so they might be a bit stale by now. ;)

I prefer the type of filter head with integral priming pump such as thishttps://goo.gl/images/dJ91e9 to the squeeze bulb type. It's more of a 'proper job' in my view.

If I didn't already have a new CAV, that's probably the way I'd go.

You can buy the priming pump separately to fit to your new CAV head (as indicated by Paul R above, with link to ASAP provided).
