Advise on fishing techniques from a moving vessel ?

We crossed the Thames, Ramsgate - Fambridge, on Friday with winds F2 or less. Visibility 0.25nm or less ! as we had lots of time to catch the flood up the Crouch we decided to try trolling for supper. out came the hand held line with 3 spinners and sandeel like lures. Also tried rod with feathers and single spinner. Motor sailing at 3/4knots.

4 hours later nothing caught, what was wrong with the technique ????

Can't help with the fishing query but as I sat in the garden with the mist pouring in off the sea I did wonder how you would fare with the visibility. Glad to know it didn't inconvenience you excessively.

Hi,

As you will see, just posted report on swatchway transit ! Great job, many thanks.

We had radar, AIS and all eyes peeled for many hours. The worst vis was approaching BoC mooring with less 50m fr about a mile, even used fog horn !

Probably too near the surface due to 4 knots lifting the lures, also 4 kts is a bit quick unless you were after Marlin. A heavy weight over the stern with a line release to free the lures when you get a fish on will help. Generally though, the water is just too murky for trolling on the east coast.

You were going just a bit too fast to allow the lures to sink a bit

Get yourself a couple of fishing paravanes from your local tackle shop or Ebay.

They work brilliantly.
