I don't know anyhting about fishing but these blokes at Arnside the other day seemed to have more luck than the rod and line people.

The dreaded spindly killer fish!

Highly poisonous is a bit of an exaggeration. It'll hurt like a b*stard but it's only going to kill you if you're so fragile that a light breeze can threaten to send you to an early grave.
 
I used to fish at Arnside quite a lot when I lived in the North West, fish the Stone jetty at Morecombe at high water then onto Arnside for Flounder.
My best catch was a Sea Trout about 5 lbs when retrieving my flounder hooks complete with silver paper, accidental, but it still tasted good!
 
Is it flounder they are catching then?
I did used to go out on a friend's father's coble at Brid and hand-line fish. I think he called what we caught dabs.
Are they similar?

Both flat fish but not the same. A good dab is little more than six inches long flounder gat much bigger. Dabs taste the better of the two.

They are similar only in that they are both flatfish. Dabs are usually small and have very rough skin like sandpaper but are good to eat.
 
Yes they are Flounder caught at Arnside, sometimes called Fluke. Dabs are far better sweet tasting, they tend to favour deeper water. Flounders can taste very earthy, a bit like a freshwater Pike can.
Bridlington takes me back! Coddling, Dabs, Plaice and the odd Ling and Coalfish.
 
Dabs readily available in a Tescos near you! Famous since Jamie Oliver cooked them on th "save our fish" programme. However the Tesco ones are a bit miserable compared with ones caught locally here in Poole (along with Brill, Megrim, Slip Soles, Plaice and Flounders better than you will see in a supermarket). Shan't tell you about the crabs, lobsters, scallops, wild bass etc as you will all want to come and live here.

Lovely spot. When I was a kid we had a family holiday in the big hotel on the far side of Lakeys photo at Grange over Sands (those were the days). It was owned by British Railways then (late 1950s). I gather its a bit tired and run down now which is sad, but it wasn't back then.

Flook Stamping.

They wriggle a bit and its not good if you have ticklish feet

You can find weaver fish in the pool by the Wyre Light -the technician at Knott End Sailing Centre once stood on one. He was OK but it did hurt and he spent a pleasant hour or two in Blackpool Vic.

Possibly not if you are wearing wee booties...
I suppose Lakey's observation of the lack of success, lends weight to the argument that wearing rubber does reduce sensitivity?
