I'm new to Poole and now dry berth at Cobbs Quay. I would like to take my sons fishing. Where should I head for and what's the best time of day?
Many thanks.

What sort of fish you after, Drifting! the entrance gives good return of mackerel with feathers, or of the west end of brownsea at high tide gets good bass on a paternoster rig with a bouyant bait . A float just off the hook will keep the crabs away from the bait. Have a look in the takle shop in the old part of the high street as they did have a good guide to fishing round poole. But do bear in mind the bylaws of the harbour when anchoring and drifting.

Wha'dya mean "I'm always playing with this engine" its the only way to get it to run!

Hi,
Pretty well anywhere in Poole harbour for flatfish and small bass, keep about 8 feet under the boat and spin with just a flounder spoon with ragworm on the hook, or try around old harrys rocks out of poole harbour ,for Bream ,doggies, smouthhounds, ect .on the bottom with, squid , mackeral or hermit crab.

Dave.

Came back from Weymouth last Sunday, slowed down to check out a Jet ski who was miles out. The jetski was drifting in the current and it looked like the owner and passanger were waving for assistance.

As I got closer I realised they were both fishing.

Poole is a Bass nursery area, so you can't legally catch Bass west of a line drawn from Salterns Marina to Jerry's Point via Brownsea Castle during the summer months, hefty fine if caught. So if you want Bass better fish near the harbour entrance or outside the harbour. Also the minimum size for Bass is 16" NFSA, and 14" MAFF.
Could drift off Branksome with a baited spoon for Plaice during the summer.
Late summer early autumn herring can be caught in the vicinity of "Aunt Betty" using feathers.
Hope this helps.
