Cos they need a forty grand rib to catch fishermen on the upper thames, more money pi$$ed up the wall.

I despair sometimes.

Amazing! Talk about a Sledgehammer to crack a Nut. Illegal Anglers aren't that big a problem, the odd few immigrants who don't know our laws, little kids with their bread paste and five bob rods.
Hardly going to dent the fish stocks of Britain.

Werroff to "Lounge" flying start :)
Is the rib new or just the notice on it ?
Is it used for other duties, safety boat or maybe obtained during recent floods ?
Anybody even bothered to find out before putting foot to key board.
Nah thought not.:)

Maybe you,b1 or teddington lock, defenders of the EA on here could enlighten us all?

The boat was bought for the Olympics and it has been re-purposed for maintenance work since then and now it's being used for fisheries enforcement.

Even if it is used for other purposes, they'd still need additional patrol staff to operate it and it unless they're sharing it with the RNLI I can't think why they'd need a RIB to tackle poachers on the towpath. A few people might have posted 'nice boat' if the EA weren't telling everyone how skint they are. If they do run out of staff to operate it, they could always ask for unpaid volunteers or just stick a camera on top of that pricey remote controlled boat that debuted this year.

I think you'll find that the current fisheries officers will be using it.

Which as I said, is a waste of time unless the poachers are willing to wait while the boat approaches them, moors up and the staff get off. It's not very inconspicuous

I was actually thinking it would be nice if we could have a few of those chasing up boat licence and mooring infringements - might make for a bit of excitement on the river. Unlike some here, I don't go looking for negatives all the time and am not incensed by the idea that every penny spent may not be as well managed as it might be - we live in an imperfect world. I don't know who is responsible for the general mess we seem to be in in this country but I guess we can't always hide behind "it's someone else's fault".

Local council where I live seem to be able to fix the roads if there's a major bike ride coming through the town but do next to b*gg*r all abut uneven pavements that are a hazard for old f*rts like me.

Problem is, whats to be done to start a recovery process - or is it already too late?

Have seen the fisheries guys at work and its rarely poachers they are targeting - usually just jack the lads with no rod licences. Seems that they can actually operate more effectively from a boat, particularly where fishermen may not be easily seen from land side.

So no more demands for forum to come up with sources of funding then? (Obviously EA has plenty cash to play with.)
Perhaps they should sell it and use the patrol boats that lie idle most of the time instead?

Instead of selling it to help the funding deficit.....

Erm as somebody who has owned several Ribs I can assure it's not worth much more than 20k second hand. Better to keep the asset and use it across a range of functions such as fisheries, enforcement, events and maintenance.

Its kinda crazy that you argue over lack of investment and when they invest in one bit of kit to use in a cost effective manner, you still complain. On that basis they can never satisfy you and you have illogical demands.

I bet the money from the Olympics to pay for it came from central Gov and not the EA as well. Its probably a free boat being put to work as best they can on that basis!!!!

So high up on the EA list of things to target are 'jack the lad' types with no rod license?
Will they be zooming about 'Miami vice' style or ruining it by running it at river speed.
'Recovery process',if it wasn't so sad it would be funny.
