Fisher 46 - First in 15 years!

I know from our own experience that the envy of others, especially those who cannot aspire to the same, is often expressed as "If it were my yacht I would not have had that like that, I don't like this or that, this would have been bigger, my manky old little one is much more convenient /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif,.....," etc.

Of course there are others who are just naturally rude and can't help showing it.

From my point of view it looks a nicely built and interesting boat and trust that the owner got what he wanted and has many years of happiness with it. Thanks for showing it.

What a sad attitude. I sail a 26 ft boat or a 31 foot boat depending on my mood, and have no desire for a 46 ft boat. If I wanted a 46 boat this Fisher 46 would not be what I wanted as I do not want this style of boat. I am sure this incarnation of the Fisher 46 is a wonderful boat, but no matter how much or how little it costs it isn't the boat for me. I do not mean to be rude but I just don't like it. The OP posts his pictures etc and then gets a bit snippy just because somebody says that they don't like it - well that's unfortunate but we all have different ideas as to what the 'perfect' boat is.

Your absolutely right Celeb Scandel. It would be much more constructive if we all just said Coo isnt that lovely. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Thanks for the comments all - both positive and negative.
The sails have gone back for a some adjustments and a few very minor electrical items and details are being changed but it's pretty much there.
A reader from here should be seeing it at the weekend so interesting to hear what he thinks of it.

Beautiful? I think that's a bit of a stretch....... functionally comfortable perhaps?

This is more my idea of beautiful:

And more contemporary:

Thanks Tony /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
And, as has been pointed out on the East Coast bit, something on the slim side wouldn't suit my ample frame, would it! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The Fisher is what I'd call "functional" just like the other boats they've had (Botnia Targas mostly). Some people find beauty in functional forms others think they look grim. I sit on the fence on that one depending on the product.
Those yachts are very pretty but can they be sailed single handedly from inside the wheelhouse in foul weather?!
I sailed with a crew on a 56ft (approx) 1917 Bristol Clipper across the channel (Hamble - Cherbourg) in a force 9 and 15ft swell. The boat was amazingly capable and took the battering well (most of us didn't though and were very very ill!) and it's a very pretty looking thing, but I'd rather have been in that Fisher!

There is a morris 36 in my marina, what a piece of artwork, but in a million years I wouldn't pay that kind of money for a 36ft day boat. What a waste... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif You'd probably buy a few fishers for the same money /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I wasnt ctiticizing the boat in a negative way ,just saying that if I had one I would want some form of cockpit built around the outside helm position.

She looks sturdy and well built/finished in the pictures. Fishers have legendary seakeeping qualities and Im sure she would get you anywhere in safety.

Graham - Not taken as criticism. All comments are interesting and I will mention them. It's more or less a complete custom build apart from the basic hull shape so anything can be changed.

If seating is an issue, they'll put some in. My impressions were just of a very functional and cohesive design that simply feels "right." I will pass all comments and see if there are reasons for the design decisions made.

Well that's where I think you are wrong. The spec sheets below show that your nearby Morris 36 could be sailed away for USD$289,000 which is around GBP140,000. I don't think you'll get many Fisher's for that, eh?

Admittedly, the Hinckley 42DS (pictured bottom) is a stiffer GBP360,000-ish but again it's not a whole order of magnitude more expensive than your Euro equivalent.

Well the owner of the one in Dublin wasn't shy in admitting that it cost him upwards of half a million dollars, but then his is not the basic spec. Still, half a million for a day boat...

OK. I have to now admit that ours was a fraction of the cost of the Fisher (and possibly less than those day boats) but you would expect that given her age, despite a major spend by the previous owner around six years ago.
I think I may have cracked the picture issue and I am about to post my first photo (I hope).
If that works, I may try some others.
