Fisher 25

I am looking for personal experiences (information) on this boat.

What is the headroom? What is bether, ketch or sloop? I am 1.86 m tall ¿Is it a problem for this boat?

The fact is that I love the Fisher 25 eventhough I have never seen one but in pictures.
I own a 24' and I am very hapy with this sise, I have got everything I need: a roomy forebunk 2.20 m long, a small 1 burner cook, frigo, a big chart table, radar, gps/plotter, autopilot, vhf, blu HF, and a 8 HP diesel. Enough for enjoing every summer going up and down the NW coast of Spain.
Every year I see several Fishers 30' 34 or 37 calling La Coruna but I've never seen a 25. Of course I like very much all this big Fishers and I wonder I could enjoy sailing also in winter this coast with one of them, but I have a special feeling for small boats and single sailing so when I heard about the 25' I thought inmediatly "this is my boat" and now I'm ready to buy one. So I will apreciate any coments on the big Fisher 25.

Best regards,
Juan.

I have a Fisher 25 sloop

I have the sloop-rigged version of the F25. It sails OK but is not a fast boat. It doesn't sail close to the wind - not happy higher than about 50 degrees off. Best on a broad reach in about 10-15 knots of wind, when she will reach about 5 knots.

Motors well (uncontrollable astern!). Very seaworthy (CE cat A - ocean). Heavy at 4,500Kg displacement. Headroom may be too low for you.

Regards,

Jerry

Like you I have always had a soft spot for the Fisher 25. Jim Andrews did an article in PBO some years ago about his. There is a nice one for sale in Dickies of Bangor, N Wales. About £25000. They have a website http://dickieschandlery.co.uk. Follow the links to the boat sale section. They might be able to send you the details by email.

Hope this helps.

Re: I have a Fisher 25 sloop

Thank you Jerry

If you know of some F25 for sale, please let me know.

What is the cruising speed under motor? I have seen some reports of 7 kts, wich seems to much optimist. I think.

What about headroom in the willhouse?

Juan.

I think there is slightly more headroom in the wheelhouse than in the saloon. You really need to see one and try it for size!

7 knots is quite possible! I have seen that with my Yanmar 3GM30 wide open (about 3600 rpm) in smooth water. I have an Autoprop which may help. I think 5-6 knots crusing is what you should expect.

Call Fox's Yacht sales Fox's Yacht Sales:

Fax: 01473 684300

They had quite a new one for sale recently, 1998 I think, for about £70k. Not sure how much you have to spend, but I've seen a few over the last year ranging in price from about £20k.

Cheers, Jerry

Re: I have a Fisher 25 sloop

Thank you again for the info.

I know about the Fisher 25 from Fox Yachts, exactly 69.500 GBP, quite out of my budget. There is one in Italy from 1977 about 22.000.- and another in Greece asking 17.000 GBP. I hope to find one a little bit near home, but in this price range.

I see that you are very hapy with the Autoprop. ¿Did you note a great improvement under sail? Maxprop seems as good and is cheaper.

Cheers,
Juan Varela.

Re: I have a Fisher 25 sloop

I have only known the boat with the Autoprop so I don't know how much better it than without! I think you are right about them being similar, so take your pick. The Autoprop is self-pitching so if the size is slightly wrong you are stuck unless you send it back and get it re-pitched. The Maxprop gives you the option to easily change the pitch youself, so I think I'd have a look at that one.

Cheers,

Jerry
