Fisher 25

I am considering buying a Fisher 25 motorsailer with a view to going from the Forth to the Clyde via the Forth and Clyde canal . Does anyone have a figure for the air draught ? Scaling from photos gives approx. 2.2m but It would be helpful with a confirmed figure . Thank you .

VicS gives good information as usual (the man's a google fiend) but it might be worth ringing the canal people to ask them if they have ever had a Fisher 25 through.

It might be worth worrying about water draught as well. According to Google, the F25 draws only 2 1/2 less than my boat, and although I haven't been through, friends of mine with an identical boat have and had very sticky time of it, particularly in the eastern half. Lots of fiddling about with paddles to get them through the shallow bits. Rumour has it that it's getting worse - hardly any boats use it and maintenance is not a high priority.

Thank you all for the very useful information regarding air draught of Fisher 25 . I have been through Forth and Clyde several times with boats of 1.5 m draught .Shopping trolleys were the biggest problem ! Falkirk Wheel only comes into play if you wish to join Union canal to go to Edinburgh .

Interesting. Perhaps they have improved things since the new sealock opened. Did they have to raise the water level for you - if they did, you might have to knock something off the published air draught.

Bear in mind that your boat will be lower in the water in fresh water.

Interesting - and valid - observation; less air draft but more in the wet bit!

Don't ask me how much the water draft would be increased. It's something to do with relative density.

The Crinan Guide says four inches, but I think they overstate it for yacht-sized boats.

No special treatment required but one location where a culvert crosses under the canal and a bit of a scrape .
