I have a volvo penta saildrive 120, the fish line cutter on the prop shaft has seen better days, from what I've read they are useless anyway.
Must it be renewed or can it be done without? someone told me it was needed as a spacer.
Any information would be gratefully accepted.

It might be useless as a rope or fishing net cutter.. but it could stop any small fishing lines or string from cutting into the seals.. One small cut and you'll have sea water in your saildrive oil (or oil in the sea). Neither of which are good!

I can't remember but I think it would be needed as a spacer and they look much sharper after a good clean up and polish.

Essential as spacer !

Do not try without it

You must fit he centre ring even if the cutter part is gone as acts as a spacer.
