I would like to buy fish finder for occasional fishing on tidal river (Blackwater in Essex). I am looking for something rather cheap, and I think I would buy either Lowrance Hook 2 or Lowrance Fish Hunter Pro. Hook 2 looks pretty solid, I wonder if anyone has experience with Fish Hunter Pro? Is it just a gadget, or it presents real value?

The Fish Hunter and other castable fishfinders are designed for use by anglers on shore and casting to a point where they want to fish. When fishing from a boat you are usually fishing over area you have travelled across so a fishfinder that looks down from a fixed position in the boat is the type to use. I would recommend Hook2 for boat fishing, and it's cheaper! You can mount the transducer on the transom or stuck to the inside of your hull.
