The Director of Planning for Oban District has received an application to develop a shell fish farm site at the entrance to Loch Melfort.
Please contact be if you want the address to send your objection to.
Its right in the middle of the entrance to the Loch and would not only be as unsightly as the rest of them but would, I believe represent a real danger to navigation. I'm happy to attach a copy of the letter I've sent which outlines the principles on which my objection is based if you send me your email address
thanks

As a selfish shellfish fisherman I would like to object even though I've never been there. Most of this muck is sent down this way, it shouldn't be allowed.

NIMBY

Claymore (and assorted caber-tossers),

I believe I may fairly accuse you of taking a shellfish attitude on this question. Do you not realise that it is in the greater good of the nation that we should all enjoy unfettered access to affordably-priced, pre-parsleyed stocks of moules marinieres on the shelves of our favourite fine food emporiums, such as Dougie's Nosh, Cig's, New's and Sweetie's?

Recant your objections now, or we'll all be enjoying Lorne sausage-induced heart attacks long before the West Coast becomes the great larder of the world that it deserves to be.

BTW - to benefit from this proposal, why not take shares in Melfort Mussels and Miscellaneous Molluscs Inc, and use the massive dividends to move your greenhouse to a more accessible haven in a warmer part of the United Queendom?

Re: NIMBY

See the <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.theherald.co.uk/news/11444.html> Glasgow Herald </A> .. good news..

As for small time "local" operators I hardly call Switzerland local..

ooops Jimi got there first..

but what I'm really interested in is this ..Objectors to the application by Celtic Sea Ltd, whose sole directors are Phillipe and Maria Heiniger, have uncovered a 1977 concession which suggests the proposed farms, and up to 75% of those in existence, are in breach of sailors' rights of navigation.
They argue that when the Crown Estate Commissioners established its right to lease the seabed 27 years ago at a Court of Session hearing, it also acknowledged other users such as sailors have certain rights of navigation and anchorage.
John Christlieb, who owns Melfort Pier and Harbour Club, a five-star holiday complex, is now creating a fighting fund for a legal action which could also question the process of grants and licences as well as the validity of existing fish farms.

What do you make of that? Isn't it about time there was some work done by the RYA or even dare I say Yachty press?
