As some of you may recall I asked for some good places to stay along the river. We set off from Walton on Friday night (25June10)

Due to a late crew memeber we had to pull in and pick him up.

And then headed off to the Swan in Staines. Where we arrived to full garden of people. Never had a docking gone so smooth mind you I think everone was thinking we can not under any circustances mess this up.Had a good meal with good service retired to the bar. Unfortunaly Bar closed at 12 but booze was taken to the boat and later retired to our Rooms at the swan. I know the Swan has got mixed reviews but our experiance there was very good. The rooms were excellent. So Saturday morning arrived had a full english and headed off to Windsor.

Moored up at Windosr Racecourse Marina. The entrace to the Marina is something else. It feels like your entering the congo. Windosr Race course Marina is fine but very tight and our berth was realy shallow.

Had a good night out in Windosr stayed in the Mercure Hotel in the centre fortunatly air conditioned rooms temp was around 30 degrees. But not the greatest of hotels.

So all in all a brillaint weekend met some great people, saw the sights, and relaxed.

Anyway your probaly bored to tears by now but you guys have been doing this for ages and you know how great it is.

Thanks for everyones helps and tips I certainly could not have done this without your help.

Great pics, looks like you had a brilliant trip, away from my boat last 2 weeks due to business and friends 40th, seeing this has made me miss her even more :-( Congrats on a lovely clean looking boat

Looks as though you had a great time and enjoyed some fantastic weather. I agree with your comments about the Swan, we went a couple of weeks ago and food, drink and service was spot on, even had table service sitting outside watching the football, can't beat that!

Executive boating! spending each night in a hotel and not on the boat!
Better not let SWMBO read this.

Chill

Cracking post! PM me next time you are in Staines. We took the dinghy down there on Friday night for a flippant pint. Well, several flippant pints....

Thanks for the photos I enjoyed them. Surprisingly no one has made a comment on the Hire Boat Flag you are flying.

I'm susprised too but a hire boat??? Is their something I don't know
We just felt a lads weekends without wives and children deserved a special flag. Mind you all kids on the river and on the bank love it.

Thanks for all your postive comments guys.

A great post, exactly what the river is all about.

As for the scull and crossbones, for those of us who have been on the river for a few decades the joke is kind of old now after seeing the 000th pirate ship, every hire boater thinks they are the first, but kids love it and it does no harm as long as you don't mind the "oh no not another" looks.

I have long also understood it to mean "kids on board looking for other kids with whom to play" and I've been knonw to fly it for that reason.

Raises questions when its an er "gentleman's cruise":-)

Thanks for everyones complements on the boat and history of the Jolly Roger on the Thames.

Now few months ago when I posted anyone have any tips for a new boater. Everyone kindly said the do and don'ts. No one ever said don't fly the jolly roger because will look like a birk.

However now I know. So who wants to buy and very "rare and famous (Its cousin twice removed was the stunt flag for Pirates of the Caribean)" Jolly Roger only used once...offfers invited.

PS I now have my YBW Burgee so as soon as my extra mast comes she will be dispalying a proper symbol.

Cheers
Matt

Just so you know. Technically the Royal Navy can open fire on any vessel flying the Skull & Crossbones without issuing a warning. I haven't heard of them doing so lately though ;)

That must have been a real pain for the submarine captains returning to port with their jolly rodgers flying after a successful mission :)
