Just got back from our first family weekend away at the boat and had a great time apart from the howling winds!

However I just wondered how much longer you all think we need to do the following:

1. have no water on board (it's drained down to stop the system freezing)
2. move all the cushions when we leave in order to have engine hatches left open for ventilation and putting heaters down there
3. leaving the de-humidifier running when not there
4. leaving all cupboards and doors open (not quite sure why

These may all be necessary, I don't know, or is Nick being over cautious? Its just a real pain when we get there and when we have to leave.

Um, no value in leaving cupboard doors shut. Yours would have to be a damp boat indeed to need ventilation in there.

I think that on the south coast at any rate, you can now spray the enginerrom with rust inhibitor of any description, wipe of the excess, fill the tanks and be ready for the season.

There's no need to keep the domestic water system drained down providing the boat is in the water and particularly if you have a heater on board although its a good idea if the boat is ashore. The other 3 things are good practice to minimise corrosion and mould
