First video

I particularly liked the shot where you were moving sideways along the cliff.

I looked lovely out there, keep up the good work so the Med boys & girls don't get all sunshine videos :)

Agreed. The side light gave nice depth to the cliffs.

I'm curious and hope you don't mind me asking, but the controller looked that of a DJI Phantom? I was wondering about the tilt in some shots. Almost as if the gimbal was fixed vertically (in relation to the drone)?

Great shots and beautiful scenery, please post more!

Very nice!

That's a menu setting. As you pan sideways the helicopter body tilts sideways obviously, and you need to select something in the menus to keep the camera horizontal. I cant remember all the menu layers without it in front of me but I think it is reasonably deep in the menu and is called "gimbal follow" mode (which seems a strange name to me) as opposed to "FPV" mode. In this context, "follow" has nothing to do with "follow me"

Hi Chaps,

DJI Phantom 3 Advanced is the model and I will have to check the settings for the gimbal thank you

Yes Martin that was Saturday afternoon!!

The actual flight was about 12 minutes and I chopped out a lot of the dross...

In terms of flying over water, I think my fear of crashing is probably irrational - if it loses power over land then it will crash and burn as opposed to drown!

I also need to find the "follow me" controls - I think it will circle a moving target which would be fun to do.

I don't think P3A has a native follow me function. P4 does. I think you can get a different app (from a 3rd party, not DJI) to drive a P3A in follow me mode

I've got a P3A - bought it last year.
Mavic for this year - easier to get out to the boat and back.

There is a subtle difference between "Follow Me" and "Active Tracking".
Follow Me uses the GPS location of the Remote Controller along with the GPS from the aircraft.
Active Tracking uses image recognition to "lock on" to an image and track that.

I've not used it but I believe that "Follow Me" is available on the P3A, the P4 and the Mavic.
On the other hand, Active Tracking is not available on the P3A but is available on the P4 and the Mavic (I expect it is also available on the P4 Pro Plus)
However, I believe that the third party Litchi App does give the P3A an alternative for Active Track.

There are advantages and disadvantages in both modes.
Imagine you are flying over a woodland and you want the drone to "Follow You" - the "Follow Me" (GPS) mode would be the only way.
However, the "Active Track" is more precise for closer work - like tracking a boat in open water where the "image lock" won't loose lock.

Thats how I've read it anyway - I will see later this year when I try it for real.
