I'm thinking of trying a first run into Bembridge soon, 36 footer drawing 1.9m. I understand it's compact and with limited deep water moorings - any advice gratefully received!

Do it on a rising tide. Stick close to the buoys. Watch out for the dogleg.

I agree with all of that plus keep fairly close to the main pontoon, I've seen people run aground whilst jilling about looking for a berth. If you need to turn the boat to berth then do it just past the end of the pontoon.
Also, don't try the approach in a strong easterly, with your draught a strong swell could mean touching bottom even in the channel.
Having said that, it's our favourite Solent port and well worth the effort - choose your time and conditions and go for it.
