Take a cheap underwater camera and some means of storing and editing the pics. Very good snorkeling esp. at the Indians.
First timer - BVI charter.

well we are back! And thanks to everyone being so helpful with my pre-trip planning we really had an absolutely fantastic time. I paid heed to all the advice given here and it made a difference. We took plenty of money, very few clothes, my own hh radio and gps (good job because there was no chart-plotter), the pilot book was excellent, but the charts given were not really good enough for paper-nav. We preordered provisions and ate breakfast and lunch on board, but ashore every night. The first week flotilla was excellent for getting the gist on how things are done and the second week was a breeze. We made one anchorage mistake (Manchioneel Bay on Cooper Island in a northerly blow - horrendous night), but other than that it was all perfect. We even treated ourselves to a night in the cabins at the BEYC.
Best holiday ever!
And we will go back once we've saved up again - not something we could do every year, but worth the saving up for. Thanks again to everyone.

We made one anchorage mistake (Manchioneel Bay on Cooper Island in a northerly blow - horrendous night), but other than that it was all perfect..
Yeah, I should have mentioned that..... We had a similar experience a few years back....and the wind seems to really accelerate around the headland and then down through the anchorage... It's usually our first night stop as well....
In the future if you find youself in that spot and it's getting late and uncomfortable... Dive up north across the Channel into fat hogs bay.... Lots of moorings there and even a couple of ok restaurants...
The moorings are not used a lot... So be very carefull of coral on the pickup strop.. Which is razor sharp. We ended up with a LOT of blood on the deck and a lot of stitches. This after a very bad gear breaking night in Manchioneel bay... Not a great start to the holiday.
