I am planing a visit to the Broads for a holidya next week. We have a Princess 440 airdraft 4.8m and draft 1.2 m.

What is the best place to enter? Lowestoft or GT Yarmouth?

I know that the Northern rivers are out, but is there any where to moor in Gt Yarmouth that I can get to?

I will be travelling up from the River Medway.

You can enter the Broads by either Yarmouth or Lowestoft.
Yarmouth has the wall next to Haven Bridge.....pretty grotty.

Yarmouth you will need to get (probably) both Haven and Breydon Bridges to lft.
North Broads out.
Cross Breydon water first port of call would be the Berney Arms. havent been for a while but cash sales only last time i was there.

Lowestoft
Bascule Bridge lifts at pre determined times...check almanac.
Then to get into Broads railway bridge before the lock at Oulton Broad = 8 quid each way. very helpful people there. best to phone day before and book at approximate time of arrival, which will be based on bridge lift if you are going staright into broads.

Lowestoft has RNSYC just inside the entrance on south side or under bridge to Haven Marina....which is where i berth. and will be in attendance for most of next week /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Very important to radio either harbours before entering, they are both busy commercial ports and get the right hump if you just waltz in.

happy to chat on phone. PM me if you would like further info.

if you arriving 28/29th i would advise checking bridge lift times with the harbour before setting off.
that weekend has the air show and power boat racing and the bridge times are altered.
it may not be possible to use the Trawl dock as waiting area with the power boats event.

If you are overnighting in Lowestoft haven will gladly join you for a drink /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

first stop Royal Norfolk and Suffolk Y.C , but as Dug has said will be busy for air show. CH14 when entering harbour then visitors moorings imediately inside RNSYC ent' turn to stb they should be on CH80 but don't rely on this and just find a space or raft. Makes a good stopping off point to arrange /wait for other bridges. we moor there and will be around for show.

Thanks for your local info etc..
Was aware of Racing as saw the post a few days ago. Presume it will be just outside entrance and finish at tea time ??.
At moment we should arrive early evening but crew meeting tonight, following your news, suggests a depart / arrive on Friday evening instead - subject to weather etc.
We were intending a stopover at RNSYC with a move into Broads perhaps Sun /Mon. Is the Air show Sunday ?
Your info much appreciated - thanks.
Can you suggest any isolated islands in the broads to drop teanies off for a few days ?. Power Boat racing and Air show news met with usual 'will it be boring' response !
Look forward to a meet up, pint, natter with any forumites who are local / visiting area end July / August.

We are at RNSYC as well ('Breezer')- arrive Friday night and it will be the end of the airshow - racing is sat and sun. RNSYC may still be busy fri but they say that they never turn anyone away!!
Not sure what your airdraft is but it might be possible to squeeze under the bridges for the northern rivers at low tide - some flybridge boats manage it ok.

I think the northern bit refers to the North Broads in Norfolk which the 440 will struggle to manage unless done at low spring tides. there are a lot of quite low bridges to negotiate

Care with advise please.

Newark,York Lincoln and other northern place are quite accessable
