....and in this forum so please excuse any naivity!

I have a good opportunity for a late booking deal from LeBoat at Chertsey from Monday to Thursday for just me SWMBO and our old Labrador. Thinking about getting up to Henley and back.

Last time I went on a riverboat was the Norfolk broads sometime in the sixties!

are there any good downloadable guide books?

Stopping overnight, where to avoid? Looking for peace and quiet not night life

All other tips gratefully received

Welcome :)

You want the River Thames Book by Chris Cove-Smith
You'll find pretty much everything you need in it.

Stopping places really depends on how you want to spend your week :)

If you're looking for peace and quiet, head towards Cliveden. Stay there or call the lock keeper at Cookham (the end of Cliveden reach) for an overnight mooring.
Well worth stopping at Hurley lock (which can you can book in advance). It's a lovely island spot with BBQs and a short walk to the village for a pint and a bite to eat.

I hope the weather holds out for you, have a great trip:)

Thanks. We are not 100% definite yet. Hopefully there will be a book on the boat or I will buy one from a chandlery.

That book is not on Kindle yet so we will have to plan as we go!

Wot B1 says.... Don't underestimate how slowly you'll get places on the Thames, the frequent locks mean it can take much longer than you think!

Chertsey to Windsor for Monday, Windsor to Hurley on Tuesday, turnround and go back reverse route on weds, stay on Sloe Grove islands just above maidenhead weds night rather than back in Windsor again.

Henley would be achievable, but long days....
