Well! not me exactly, I was on the Marco Polo.
We were sailing out from Sortland in the Arctic Circle when she hit bottom and was holed.
We had a pilot on board, and it is being claimed the rock was uncharted. Temporary repairs were carried out and we sailed for three and a half days to Antwerp, where she has gone into dry dock. All passengers were taken by coach via the tunnel back to the UK.
We have all been given a very generous compensation package, and there is uncertainty about her next cruise, so who will end up footing the bill. Some of the crew were concerned that this is going to cripple the firm financially, I hope not.
