Hi,

I am taking my new boat (Sun Odyssey 42 ds)from Plymouth to Fowey on Friday for the first time this weekend, in the past we have been to Fowey many times before in a previous boat but as we could cruise at 25 kn always returned to Plymouth rather than overnight. We are planning to spend Friday and Saturday night there this time and wondered if there are any tips for getting decent berths, where to eat and just ideas for making it a memorable weekend.

You've already taken a good step towards making it a memorable weekend by choosing to go to Fowey :)

Not aware of any of the visitors' buoys being significantly better or worse than any others.

For us, Fowey traditionally means mussels at the Ship Inn.

Pick up a mooring rather than the underhill pontoons which can be a bit bouncy with any south in the wind. Food is pot luck it seems that in common with most places the restaurants and fare change every year. Sams is a love it or hate it type of place either be prepared to wait or get there early. The Chineese is or was pretty good. Others will be along with their reccomendatios shortly

Berthing is quieter and more sheltered further up if it is blowing - unless the ships are being loaded at night! Most other places are acceptable, buoys or pontoons

Royal Fowey YC has good food and a great view of the river. Sam's chippy is good - battered scallops!!

It's going to be very busy due to the regatta!

There is an extra pontoon to starboard above the King Harry ferry & I often find the fore & aft moorings in the entrance to Pont Pill are often available, I think a lot of people are put off from them ;)

It's a long way from the King Harry ferry to get into town, about 25 miles!! The Bodinick ferry may be a little closer............:)
