The French are developing a losing habit.

The latest thing they've lost is rain, with drought conditions developing.

If you don't read French, the map below illustrates how dry the soil is. Notice the extreme dryness along, roughly, the line of the Canal du Midi, bad news for those planning the transit in something with a bit of draught.

Next it will be power. (Electrical as opposed to political.) When the rivers get very low they can't get enough cooling water for their inland nuclear power stations. It has happened before and they had to import lots of power across their borders, including lots of coal fired power across the channel from us.
