First sail(s)

One of many things on the list - although I never got round to it on the old boat and the tails seem happy just lying there! Have to do something about the mainsheet as Bavaria supplied it about twice as long as it needs to be. Always reluctant to cut rope though.

Don't I know that feeling. Been sailing around with about 10 meters of unused mainsheet for five years now.

Well done Tranona.

She looks uber smart and very nice to see her on your berth :encouragement:

I hope you both enjoy every minute.

What is it about her that makes her easy to berth single-handed?

Goes backwards well, does not get blown about - and of course has a bow thruster for fine tuning. In addition I have lines hooked on a pole at the end of the finger which I collect as I go in. One is a spring that goes on a mid cleat and stops the stern hitting the end. If the bow gets blown out I have a remote for the thruster and a quick blast sorts that. Finally you can drop the guard rails aft, so easy to step off near the stern.

Is that a wireless remote? Side-Power accessory or DIY?

Sidepower wireless. Runs the windlass as well. Installed by Osmotech - probably hideously expensive for what it is, but saw it in action on another boat and was impressed. Hope it is a one off, but it failed on handover day and was replaced by Osmotech without question.

All handy things to have. You've obviously given it a lot of thought.

I hope you have a lot of enjoyable cruising in her.

She does look great, how are you finding the space down below after the 37

Actual volume is roughly the same as the waterline and beam are the same. Different layout as the 37 had twin aft cabins. New boat has a bigger single aft cabin, partly because the beam is carried further aft and a much bigger shower room and toilet with a wet hanging locker. Prefer the in line settees to the C shaped dinette and the starboard berth converts to a cosy double. Galley is smaller with less storage space and the chart table reflects the move to electronic navigation. Forecabin the same size.

Overall much better for our use and a very pleasant place to be as much lighter.

And the companionway is much better with dished treads and non slip strips.

Thanks, size sounds ideal for myself and my wife when we next buy.

This boat looks really good, reading this and Tranona's other posts about selecting it has changed my view of Bavaria (in a good way). Interesting to see earlier today that Clipper Marine had one as a cancelled order available for <80k and it's gone already....

My views changed after my brother asked me to skipper a bav 49 from Malta to Corfu a while back, although she was an oldish boat, maybe 10 years, I was impressed by the sailing performance in some pretty grotty weather in late September, also I liked the build quality.. Fast forward to last year in Antigua, we had a year old bav 37 (I think) for a week, such a nice boat to sail and live on.
