which way is the easier up the coast towards norfolk or a trip along the kent coast.
i am not a novice boater, but we would like some advice the boat is a 25 foot motorboat

I do not know that area well, but either is ok, if going south, there are many navigational hazards but are all well marked, if going north, less port of call but less hazards if you go a bit off shore[ I think]
It would for me be a weather call, if weather nice go for it.
not much help but enjoy the planning and the trip.

How good is your navigation and how long you got? Either way you go there are sandbanks and other hazards. I would say North is easier, catch the tide right and you will have 2-3 knots behind you. Stop off on the Orwell, then head north to Southwold (can be a little tricky getting in there), if not continue on to Lowestoft, through the lock and into the broads. Follow the broads round and head back out to sea via Gt Yarmouth. A nice 5-7 day trip. It's beautiful up here in Norfolk. Also with current weather patterns the land does offer you relatively good protection. This trip would also give you a good mixture of sea and river cruising. Head North!

Hi Chris,
I think we are moored close to you and have seen you fishing a few times last summer. We did our first criuse last summer and you can see some of it on the website below. Suggestions of north are good and we did Brightlingsea first, Walton backwaters where we anchored for the afternoon and went swimming and used the dinghy, River Orwell to Ipswich and back with some good food and have since done the Southwold mentioned by someone else on another trip. All of the estuary can be covered using bouyage as a reference and help build up your knowledge and experience like we did. With your boat in the right conditions we would probably have gone further but we are restricted to a 8 knot mobo. Good luck in whatever you do.

If going north i can recommend the Deben, go right to the top and stay at Woodbridge or pick up a mooring by the Ramsholt Arms. Lovely river!
