First interventions ........

Spent some time yesterday (with the help of a certain forumite - (knows who he is and a real star!) getting to grips with the electrics on the Hardy as intend to install a battery management system and unsure of existing battery status.

Some loon had left domestic battery switched on so single domestic knackered but no loss as would be changing anyway.

Long battery box lies fore and aft between the two engines and contains 2 x approx 80Ah starter batts - 1 for each engine - plus a single 110Ah leisure unit for domestics. However, the box will comfortably take 4 short length (under 280mm) batteries - 85Ah or so - so intention is 1 x HGV for starting both engines and 3 for domestics which , with the Adverc charging system should give around 120Ah of useable power = 2-3 days.

Both alternators will charge all batteries so no probs if an engine/alternator gives up on me.

No problems with loss of power steering as wheel is cable connected to rudders and very smooth too. Also nice remote fuel shut off arrangement with throttle cables from helm going to valves between fuel tank and primary filters.

Time to start spending some more money .......

The engines aren't huge lumps - 78Hp. Engine starter batteries actually get pretty light use if the engines start promptly and what little power is used is replaced quite quickly. Risk analysis says ok to proceed !

I will be wiring in a 'just in case' jump lead to the domestics switched from the panel though.

(Thinks - knew there would be some way to use that redundant isolator switch !)

Now having studied the Raymarine instruction manual for my radar/plotter/fishfinder for about 3 solid hours,am fairly certain that in theory should be fully able to turn on.
Intend now going for a well earned lay down and a snooze.

Keep up the good work Fred - haven't even opened the instruction book on mine yet. The box of manuals etc that arrived with the boat is somewhat daunting.

Maybe you can give me some hints and tips once you've sussed it all out?

The only results I have seen remind me of a 20 week scan undertaken by pregnant ladies, I was in a Honda CRV last night and on reversing a similar display came up on its screen.

I wish you good luck with it but I'm just suggesting that you don't get too excited! Maybe Maggie will find it more interesting!
