...fleeces or sweatshirts? Or do you think it'll be too hot for that even with a sea breeze? Desperately trying not to over pack!

A mate of mine has just got back from working there for a couple of months. He said it was at least 35° the whole time. I don't remember ever wearing more than a T shirt when we used to sail there ten years ago. I would have one jumper with me, because we always left at silly o'clock in the morning and it was chilly on the UK side. I'd probably do the same now.

You will only need shorts and T-shirts as well as swimming gear.

After 15 years of summer sailing in the Med I have finally got the wife's bag down to under 20kg and only last month came back with 1/3 unworn.

You have done well. Recent report in the papers suggest only one third of clothes packed by females for holidays is actually worn - the opposite of your commendable good lady!

Ok...skipper now has a light waterproof jacket just in case. The girls have a cardi. We are all packed but still have 2 large soft cases on wheels and 2 small cabin bags on wheels for the kids. We can't ever seem to pack really light! (But we have a 35 foot 3 cabin boat and the kids are smallish). Thanks for the advice, folks.

I've just deserted my boat and fled the northern Adriatic because it was too hot - in the middle to upper 30s C - even hotter than normal. I usually break my summer cruising and go home for August, which is normally too hot and crowded, but bailed out well before this year - in the middle of July. I will not be going back until the middle of September - and then only if the usual cooler temperatures prevail.

Flot'ed in Croatia a few years ago, had a couple of thunderstorms, and was glad of the spraytop I packed "just in case".

Can second that! Have been multiple times (starting when still Yugoslavia) and saw the wettest-ever thunderstorm there (Skradin) with a sky the colour of a really bad bruise. But was not cold, even then...

Mike.

It was July, in Skradin, in fact that we had the thunderstorm. SWMBO always feels the cold so her needing a cardi in the Med in summer is nothing new.

My daughter went on the same flot about a month later, in August, for her honeymoon. They also had thunderstorms, and also gales, and a dead body one morning floating under a nearby boat in the marina, in, um.... Skradin.

The body was not someone on the flotilla, but a local who had drunk too much the night before and fell off the pontoon.

But don't be put off visiting Skradin, if your flotilla includes that possibility. Especially if you accept the chalenge of sailing up and/or down the river gorge, see http://www.mjcoon.plus.com/page37.htm

Main things to leave out are multiple pairs of shoes.
I usually pack for a fortnight and include my own lifejacket and guitar and still get under 20kg.
We'll be in Croatia in 3 weeks, hope it's still warm.
