Hi All,

Apologies for spamming the forum again, but we got to do our first proper cruise last weekend and as the weather was so nice on our day out, I just had to take the camera with me.

We left our home base on the Monday morning (it was a public holiday here) and made the short trip around Katajanokka to the Helsinki market place to get some supplies from the indoor market hall that can be seen on the vid.

We then cruised south past Suomenlinna to the outermost island called Isosaari, which is an ex-military base that has only recently been opened to travellers and pleasure boaters. The island is quite picturesque with some old fortifications from 1913 and some from more recent past. The island even has a nine hole golf course. I suppose one has to do something to pass one’s time while not busy serving the country…

The weather was beautiful with thick clouds of fog passing every once in a while, but it was a bit chilly still. As the forecast showed F6 and solid rain for the following morning, we decided head back to base for the night.

A very nice day out.

A great season opening indeed! :encouragement:
Reminds me of the last season cruise which we made together a few years ago in the very same area, among others...
Beautiful memories of a stunning and very peculiar landscape, many thanks for posting the video.

@Nigel: chilly it certainly was as the sea is still very cold.

@Pinnacle: yep, straightening the burgee for a shot I realized that it has seen better days. It has faded quite a bit. Thanks, all is well at this end. Hope the same with you.

@MM: we passed this island from north east just at the start of our cruise. There are many similar ex-military islands along the coast, some of which have been sold to private entities, some opened for boaters. Of the entities buying some of those properties, surprising (or perhaps not so) foreign connections have later been revealed...
