What a difference, I sailed to Watchet on Friday and they charged me £51-30 to sit on their silt for two nights. I had to wait until the gate was open to be able to move Cobby girl (draught 1.4m) to a berth that had electric. Today I received a Christmas card from Padstow harbour, nice card with a nice letter saying the prices are staying at 2008 levels, for me that is £15 a night (£30, instead of £51-30) £21-30 to buy beer with. With Ilfracombe at less than Padstow I will be staying away from Watchet. I have, in the past, asked why the price is so high when the most expensive marina I have been to on the south coast was £22 a night. The answer was "they don't have to dredge as often as us and it includes electric" not a very good answer to the guy sat on the silt with no electric!

PS, Once I had moved the boat my 2kw electric heater and immersion heater were turned on.

Got mine from Padders yesterday too. They also enclosed a booklet of 2009 tide tables with an RRP of 90p along with the chatty letter. Top marks for customer care, and will definitely be going back next year. Isn't it nice to have something good to say when all around is gloom and doom.

stil pondering about Watchet so found this interesting....when you say you were sat on the silt, were you inside or outside the marina? I know quite a few boats miss the gate to get in so apparently have to sit outside......

Can see what you mean about visitor prices, but annual berths seem reasonable?

Yes had mine too for my first visit in my own boat. Excellent PR with card individually signed. I will be back. As for Watchet a chap in our club didnt realise he was sat on silt and ran his engine to charge the battery. Turned out to be very expensive. However SWMBO likes the pontoons.

Its not so bad for me with less meters to pay for but I have to say that despite the price I like Watchet,

if you request a deep water berth on arrival they usally can find you one.We didnt touch bottom at all on the visitors pontoon behind the fuel berth a month or so ago.

I used to sneakilly hide my power lead between the gaps in the pontoon walkway until I found out it was included in the price anyway. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

We were inside, on B pontoon, about six place down from the end. Another thing I found was that some of the sockets, on the outside ends of the pontoon were 32amp, not the standard 16amp.
It seems, from their pricing, they are more interested in annual berth holders and livaboards, which is fine with me, it is their business and they should run it how they see fit. Unfortunatly it will mean a lot less visits to a lovely little town for us.

was speaking to someone there this afternoon and it was mentioned that they are going to review their visitor prices for the coming year.....something to do with a recession and new management apparently....... ?

A price reduction will certainly see us back there, as visitors.

Looking forward to trying Padstow, are we having a summer next year?
