I am in the process of changing up boats and cant find my first choice a Beneteau 32s5. Has anybody any ideas of other designs which fill my needs ie : fast grp cruiser. up to 34 feet and not too wide, built around 1990.

An X99 from X-Yachts gives an excellent sailing experience at the expense of some domestic comforts, like the Firsts. They have been in continuous production since 1986 and are still being made. I believe that there are close on 1000 now, which makes it the biggest 10m class ever. It is inadvisable to change one though, because then it will lose it's One-Design status and hence value.

For details go to http://www.x-yachts.com/ and click on X-Range on the left and then look for X99.

What is your budget? Where will you be sailing? Why 1990? Where have you looked for a 32s5?

There is one on eyb-boats.com - Euroyachts in Largs. £40kish.

Agree on the X-99, you could also try a late Sigma 33, Dehler (forget the exact model), late model Sadler 32, spend a bit more and get a 2-3 year old First 31.7 or there are a ruck of ex charter Sun Fast 32's at Lymington at £40k, can be bought for about £36-£38k.
