Had a lucky escape tonight, we were enjoying a family firework evening here at home, when all of a sudden, for all intents and purposes we were in the middle of a major firefight!!! We live on the side of a hill and people were in the park, that our garden overlooks, the fireworks they were setting of, Rockets and bomb type things were exploding at about 200/300 feet right level with our garden!!! I was luckily hit with about 4 of the exploding shells(I say lucky it could have been the Girls) and have suffered some bruising but not any burns, a couple went of under the chairs the Girls and SWMBO were sitting on, Bloody frightened the life out of the lot of us!!! I havn't seen SWMBO move that fast for years!! We have never had this problem before, but then we did have a dense screen of trees until last year, but I dropped a load of them to landscape the garden and to improve the view. I shall certainly be reviewing the fencing, screening, options ASAP.
A lucky escape it could have been a different story, SWMBO is fighting me for the Brandy bottle!! And I need a shower!!!
An organised diplay next year, preferably with a view from the Bar!!

!!! Down here in Spain, the spanish dont seem to need much of an excuse to let all hell break loose with fireworks !!! As most of us have apartments or villas on hill sides, I can understand where your coming from. They seem to be getting bigger and closer everytime !!
Glad all´s ok though.

You are very lucky.

Had a similar problem some years ago, final firework was a very large catherine wheel which I nailed to a stout 4"x4" post. It was designed with two large motors, but when it was lit, one of the motors failed and the resulting imbalance eventually waggled the 6" nail out of the post, and the firework went whizzing just over the heads of all the children.

I have never bought another firework!

I had a great time - dug a foxhole at the end of my garden and hid in it with my tin helmet and enfield rifle all night reliving The Somme. . . . . .

Had a similar experience last year in our garden, firework fell over and fired straight at us. Blew a hole in one of the adults shirts right at the kids eye height. Needless to say only had a bonfire this year....
